Appeals
When a divorce case has an important issue that is decided by the trial court, it is always subject to review by a higher court. In all Michigan trial courts that handle divorce cases, that higher court is The Court of Appeals.
The Michigan Court of Appeals consists of three-judge panels that review the decisions of lower courts for legal errors or the interpretation of Michigan Law. In cases involving significant assets and complex financial issues, it is critical to hire an attorney who has experience taking cases up to the Court of Appeals.
Why? Because the experience and knowledge gained by having a trial court reviewed allows the attorney to more accurately predict whether or not a decision is fair and follows the law. Do not trust your important case to just any attorney, call David Potts immediately.
Attorney David Potts has handled complex appeals that affected the lives of his clients. In Johnson v. Johnson, the Court of Appeals ruled on a significant issue regarding the awarding of spousal support, commonly referred to as alimony. The Court reversed the trial court in favor of David Potts' client, Sharon Johnson, and required the trial court to award an appropriate amount of alimony to her.
The Court also ruled in Sharon Johnson's favor when it reversed the trial court regarding the valuation of a 4.5 million dollar business. The Court also reversed the trial court in Sharon's favor when it ordered Mr. Johnson to pay her remaining attorney fees, including her appellate fees! The case was not over. The trial court was appealed again and the Court of Appeals ruled in Sharon Johnson's favor for a final time. You can see a copy of the decisions below.

Testimonial
"During my divorce, David was a master strategist. As time progressed it became apparent that he was always a step or two ahead of opposing counsel. The division of assets was made difficult by the complexity of our investments, including a family owned business. David's experience in corporate law was invaluable. He was comfortable with both the local divorce court and the appellate court. The outcome after my appeal led to a new precedent in law and has been widely referenced throughout the state. It helped immensely that David and his assistant, Judy Downing, were always at hand to explain issues and provide reassurance and empathy."
